Lapland, Finland
Our first three nights in Finland were cloudy. It was meant to be cloudy on our fourth too. And when it’s cloudy, you can’t see the Northern Lights. Even if it isn’t, your chances are pretty slim unless you are really far north. So, after a day of exploring Southern Lapland on foot, we got back to the car and I pulled up my app to check the solar winds and see where we might get a clear sky. But, due to an incoming snowstorm there was nowhere for us to go within two hundred miles. Eventually I found a spot that looked like it might be clear for a few hours, but it was a five hour drive and 250 miles north of us. I turned to Robbie and said, “So I dunno if you wanna do this but if we drive five hours north-“, but before I could finish he interrupted saying, “Do you even have to ask? Let’s go. Where are we headed?”. So we drove the ten hour round trip for a 2% chance of seeing the lights. It was worth it. The rest of the trip was pretty amazing too. A true winter wonderland.
