Entirely handmade, Lions Only. takes an intimate look at the murky intersection between childhood and adulthood. The book touches on many of the same themes present in Rudyard Kipling’s If—, dividing the maturing process into four parts: self-confidence, humility, determination and self-actualisation. Filled with several stunning double-page, full-bleed portraits of lion cubs, Lions Only. is minimalistic in its design, allowing the photographs to speak for themselves, rather than constricting them with something so clumsy as language. Printed on glossy paper in an edition of one, Lions Only. was Wilcockson’s first wildlife book.
